Opening an art gallery can be a great way to showcase local artists and allow you to have a business that can bring in a reasonable amount of money. The one thing that a lot of art gallery owners have problems with is keeping the business going and having a large grand opening event to get the public interested. When doing a grand opening of an art gallery, your very first step is to advertise months in advance. The whole point of advertising is getting people to know that you are there and are going to be opening your doors very soon.

The reason you want to give months of advance for an opening is because you need to let people schedule this into their calendars. Giving them only a few days or a week’s notice is simply not enough time and you might find that your grand opening is not as large as you were hoping. You might also want to get live music and events going on in the gallery so that people will want to come and see what you have to offer. You will find that your gallery is a success when you do the right advertising. If you like what you see, keep going: New Art Studio/Gallery Opens in Clearfield

After being in love with art your entire life so far, it’s finally time to host your first gallery event. What tips can you take to ensure that it runs smoothly? First, you want to ensure that you have properly advertised. In the moments before the show starts, you do not want to be worrying that no one is going to show up. In fact, it’s smart to ask people to RSVP before the event so that you know how many to expect.

You should also have a nice spread of some snacks and beverages for the guests to indulge in while they walk around and look at the art. Of course, choose items that are easy to carry, and you can also look into setting up some small tables.

At different galleries, the events and crowds can vary a bit. Well in advance of the show, sit down with someone who has hosted an array of events at this particular gallery. When you are asking questions of a professional in this particular discipline, you provide yourself with the opportunity to really learn the ins and outs of an art show here. Your first gallery event can really be an event you’ll always remember.

Lots of people think that an art gallery is nothing more than an assembly of paintings and other works all gathered together in one room. While that is certainly one aspect of a gallery, there is so much more that goes into setting one up. You might have seen galleries either in person or on television or the internet if you get your service through places like www.t1internet.net. There is much more involved in setting up a gallery than hanging a few paintings and we have created a short list of tips to help you get your gallery going.

1. Brainstorm – develop a theme that you want to define your gallery. It doesn’t have to be something epic or profound but it should be meaningful to you. This theme will be what unites all your work.

2. Pick and choose – now that you have a theme, go through your works and decide which ones are the best representations of your creativity and talent.

3. Regroup – if the theme you are going for doesn’t quite match the work you have chosen, then think about it. Find a way to make it work through some deeper meaning or try to find a new theme.

4. Venue – find a space to rent out or a museum to host your gallery. The venue should reflect the theme in some way to further enhance your message.

5. Pitch – get the theme and your motivation down on paper and get ready to sell your idea to both the gallery host and the public.

Any aspiring artist, regardless of their artistic style, is generally interested in finding a space to exhibit their art. Unfortunately, not all artists are as savvy at disregarding the law as artists like Bansky, and can’t make the city streets their canvas. As a result, they will have to use some tactics to find a display area that is best suited for them.

The first thing to do is to find an area that speaks to you. Most likely, if you are in a city that speaks and inspires you are, chances are you will feel more connected to the area and more energy for selling your art. You also want to find a space where you can flourish in your art and sell your art. A lot of artists connect their studio with their gallery space, so this is extremely important.

It is also important to find an area where the demographic appreciates the type of art you are making and displaying. It is easier to get people to look at and love your art that are interested in the movement you are making with your art. You will be able to sell and promote your art in an area that speaks well to you, and where your art speaks well to the area.

What do you do when the paintings are painted and the sculptures are sculpted? It is time to promote the artwork. Where to start though is a question that can leave most people feeling overwhelmed. Of course handing out flyers and advertising in the paper is a place to start, but it is not always the most effective.
Fun, creative ideas for marketing will draw in larger crowds and allow you to enjoy yourself, rather then being bored. Consider having some local businesses showcase your artwork. Hanging a painting in a coffee shop is a basic way to start. To add some fun to this you can leave an idea box under the painting. Offer a door prize, only to be given to actual attendees of your galleries big night, to the people who submit the most creative ideas about what is going on in the painting. Working in conjunction with another local business is a great way to build public relationships and showcase your stuff at the same time.
Hosting fun events at your gallery can also draw in large crowds. It can be more profitable to advertise a dinner party, a masquerade, or a 1950′s flappers night hosted by you, then to simply pay for a business listing.

The passion and vocation of the artist is to create a memorable, original, and psychologically charged piece of artwork. It does not matter what medium the artist uses to express their ideas, as long as it has the power to shock; if shock is not the desired aim of the artist, the piece should at least have the strength and gravity to move the viewer is some way. However, art does not end with the artist. How the artwork is hung or placed in the gallery space is just as important as the work itself.

A unique gallery space is supposed to accentuate the art. Curators are like architects or the interior designers of high culture. The way the artwork is arranged on the wall, what type of frame it is put in, and how the room is lit are vital ambiant components to a successful art show. For example, if you are hanging paintings it is important not to overcrowd them; the negative, white space of the room will help the viewer’s eye register the paintings more clearly. Furthermore, the type of frame you put on the artwork can make or break a good gallery show. Keep it minimal.

You’ve gotten to the point where you have your gallery all set up and ready to showcase your work. Now it is time to open the doors and host a fantastic event that will make a splash in your local community. Here are some fun ideas how to make your event the best it can be.

1. Serve appetizers within the color palate of your work.

2. Use light up ice cubes, especially for night events.

3. Present your work in an unconventional way. Why not display everything on the easels you use to paint, as well as the walls and ceiling?

4. Decorations should be minimal to showcase the work you are putting out to view, however doing a quick painting saying “Event Tonight” that showcases your style to hang outside your gallery can attract people passing by, and let your invited guests know where to go.

5. Many galleries have an industrial feel, which is great for everyday but can feel a little harsh for an event. Draping overhead lights with sheer fabric will not only soften the ambiance, but will highlight the white lights spotlighting your work.

6. If your event is to be catered, ditch the traditional black and white uniforms. Asking servers to dress to dress in less traditional colors gives your even a funky and hip feel. Just make sure they can be recognized as servers to your guests!

7. Wear your art. Looking your best, and portraying your artistic point of view to the public is important when showcasing your work.

8. Stay away from generic elevator music for your event. Find something that does not have words (as it can be difficult to hear over conversation and will be distracting), but still flows nicely with the feel of your event.

9. Explore alternate lighting sources that will work for your event. Paper lanterns, white holiday lights, or refurbishing an old chandelier can all serve as well as traditional lighting but creates a conversation piece for guests.

10. While not every artist is an on the spot type of creator, doing quick sketches of guests to hand out or similar quick forms of artwork it will keep your event in the minds of guests even after they leave.
