The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (NMMNHS) keeps a log of all activity on this web site, including, but not limited to:

  • The IP address or domain name of each visitor to the web site.

  • The pages they viewed.

  • The files downloaded and the sizes of the files.
  • The URL that referred a visitor to this site.

These log files are used to report web site activity to the New Mexico State Legislature and to meet the State of New Mexico Information Technology (IT) Strategic Plan Fiscal Year 2001 Update Fiscal Year 2002 Strategic Guide.

This section discusses the strategies, and the objectives for implementing each of the strategies, that have been defined to address the critical issues discussed in Section 4 and achieve New Mexico state government’s IT vision of enabling New Mexicans to get timely, economic, and efficient service from government using easily accessible integrated information.

Strategies and Implementation Objectives:

5.4 Strategy 4: Public Access and Participation of Citizens

Use IT to enable the participation of citizens in state government by making the access processes simple, easy to use, affordable, and widely available.

Objective 1: Identify public needs and desires for participation in government, for service delivery, and for information. (Connects with Strategy 2, Objective 5.)

Actions:

  1. Inventory current feedback instruments to gather needs and desires for public access.
  2. Analyze data gathered through feedback instruments.
  3. Gather additional data where needed including public focus groups.
  4. Inventory current offerings for public access.
  5. Conduct gap analysis between public needs and desires and current offerings.

Objective 2: Identify and implement a public access IT architecture.

Actions:

  1. Define essential components of IT architecture (for example, security and technology options).
  2. Establish technology advisory groups such as the current Web Management Group.
  3. Determine appropriate access methods based on public input and regulatory mandates.
  4. Work with the IT Commission to determine appropriate solutions.

Objective 3: Inform the public about information and services that are available and how to access them.

Actions:

  1. Promote current and new public access offerings.
  2. Leverage public access locations.
  3. Create new access points where needed.
  4. Develop and implement an education plan that considers options for leveraging existing educational infrastructure.

Objective 4: Develop and implement a method to evaluate user feedback and satisfaction.

Actions:

  1. Establish key performance indicators and evaluation methodologies.
  2. Establish a baseline.
  3. Gather data.
  4. Report results and recommendations
