We all have stories about the first time we used a computer or about the first computer we used. Were you involved in the PC revolution? Did you work at MITS or any of the other companies featured in the gallery? Have you used some of the computers on display? We’d like to hear from you!

In the early 70's, as a child, I went to Houston, Texas with my family to see my oldest brother. He was so excited about his job. He took us to his work and showed us what he called the first home computer. He was head of manufacturing or putting together the computers on their assembly line. I remember the computer had toggle switches on it. I thought he said they were sold as kits. I was so young I can't remember.
The name of this company was called Altair Industries, or I'm not sure, it may have been Texas Electronic Instruments or (TEI) There was trouble in the company a year or so after that and he left the company. My brother had told me a few years later that a guy by the name of Bill Gates wanted him to come work for him and he said no, because he wanted to start his own company. My brother Michael Hines started Beta Electronics in Houston, Texas in 1991.
His company is an Electronics OEM supply business. I was wondering if anyone has any information about the company he worked for called Altair Industries back in the 70's in the Houston, Texas area? [Submit a story on this web-site, and it will be forwarded to him!]
